HOWEVER, God’s Word is completely at odds with Thoreau’s claim. In fact, the reader is most likely acquainted with many moderns whose desperation is not so quiet! Modern man has almost completely divorced his life from what God’s Word advises: many moderns want to live their life “ their own way.” When things do not work out so well for this group, they fall back on their firm belief that “ Such is life!”

Many moderns are resigned to living “ lives of quiet desperation” because they are convinced that is the way life is SUPPOSED to be lived.

Many who do claim to be happy with their life base their conclusions solely on the amount of MONEY they earn–and not much else.

Many moderns complain about so many different aspects of their daily lives.

It is also not difficult to see why this agreement might be. It’s not hard to examine the lives of modern man and agree with Thoreau.
